SIMPLE STEPS TO BEGIN YOUR KITCHEN REMODEL
GATHER YOUR THOUGHTS
Peruse kitchen, remodel and renovation magazines to find out what you like and what you don't like. Look at door styles, drawer styles, cabinet designs, colors, finishes, countertops, sinks, hardware and layout. At this point you'll need to start thinking about whether your existing appliances can be worked into your new kitchen design or you'll want to replace them.
ESTABLISH YOUR BUDGET
Decide how much you want to invest in a kitchen remodel. The return on a kitchen remodel is in general between sixty and ninety percent. It will also depend on your location and how you spend your dollars. Your new kitchen style should match your home's style, such as "colonial", "contemporary", "traditional", etc. Include any new appliances in your budget.
PRELIMINARY DESIGN
Measure your kitchen and make a rough drawing of the existing layout, wall to wall, upper and lower cabinets, countertops, floor space and countertops. Measurements should include width, height, depth and the spaces in between. Make notes of lighting, electrical, plumbing, appliance, window and door locations. At this time you should contact a contractor or installation professional. Not only will they provide you with the installation portion of your budget, they can also assist in your preliminary design. Experienced installers can make suggestions for the easiest way to accomplish the look you want within the space you have. The installer can let you know what you can or can not move, add or remove including walls and other more permanent fixtures of your kitchen.
VISIT THE SHOWROOM
The Kitchen & Bath Design Center here at Chapman Lumber is open during our regular business hours. Feel free to browse the selection of cabinetry, countertops, hardware and accessories. Open the doors and drawers, operate the pull-out and revolving shelves, try out the self-closing drawer slides and get a feel for how you want your cabinetry to work for you. Our kitchen designers are always available to answer your questions, show options and demonstrate accessories. Appointments are not necessary but are preferred as the next step can be time consuming.
GET A QUOTE
Now that you've made a majority of the preliminary design decisions, it's time to schedule an appointment to sit down with the kitchen designer and discuss all of your options. The designer will assist you in making decisions for cabintry, countertops, hardware and accessories, and can suggest alternatives to keep you within your budget while acquiring the design you want. This step takes time and requires a lot of information from you and/or your installer. The designer will give you a detailed quote and design layout within just a few days.
ORDER PROCESS
Once your design, layout and quote are to your satisfaction and approved, a field measure is required. Unless your installer will be responsible for the measure, our kitchen designer will take accurate field measurements of your existing kitchen. At this time the designer will also assess any potential changes to your existing more permanent fixtures and discuss them with the installer.
After the measure the designer may need to make adjustments or changes to the design. If so, a new set of quotes and layouts will be generated for approval.
When all the details have been approved and the order is ready for release to the manufacturer, Chapman Lumber requires a signature on our special order release form and a fifty percent deposit.
